New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) BJP president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday slammed the Congress over the alleged house arrest of his party’s Telangana unit chief in the state, saying Rahul Gandhi’s lectures on the Constitution are a “complete sham”.
“Telangana will answer this dictatorial mindset,” Nabin said in a post on X.
This came after Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao was allegedly placed under house arrest by the police in Hyderabad to prevent him from travelling to Nalgonda to express solidarity with the party’s district unit president N Varshith Reddy whose house was allegedly attacked by Congress workers.
“Spoke with BJP Telangana State President N Ramchander Rao after police unlawfully arrested him to block his visit to our Nalgonda District President, whose house was recently attacked by Congress goons,” Nabin said on X.
“When Congress goons attack, the administration stays idle. When BJP leaders visit victims, the Congress administration arrests our leaders,” the BJP national president said, adding, “Rahul Gandhi’s lectures on the Constitution are a complete sham and Telangana will answer this dictatorial mindset.” The Congress workers allegedly ransacked Reddy’s house after BJP activists held a protest in front of state Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s camp office in Nalgonda town on Monday.
The BJP workers condemned the Youth Congress activists for allegedly throwing black colour on the gate of their party office in Hyderabad. The saffron party workers retaliated by allegedly throwing eggs and tomatoes besides burning an effigy and partly tearing a banner outside Venkat Reddy’s office.
In a post on X, the Telangana BJP chief said, “The Congress has arrested me to stop me from visiting my Nalgonda district president after Congress goons ransacked his house. I wanted to visit him to extend my solidarity.” He alleged that the Congress government “arrested” him, showing utter disregard for democracy and the Constitution.
The BJP and Congress workers protested against each other in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana on Tuesday, as police used mild force and dispersed members of both parties.
The BJP workers allegedly damaged flower pots at the camp office of Congress MLA K Anil Kumar Reddy from Bhuvanagiri and also poured black ink at the entrance of the premises.
The police picked up 14 BJP workers and took them into custody in connection with the incident.
Reacting to the attack on the MLA’s camp office, Congress activists gathered in front of the BJP office and tried to pelt stones, but the police intervened and prevented them from doing so, a police official said.
The situation is under control, the official further said.
