Patiala, Jun 11 (PTI) Power utility Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) suffered an estimated loss of over Rs 2.06 crore due to the storm and strong winds that swept across Punjab on Thursday, causing extensive damage to the power distribution network.

According to a preliminary assessment prepared by PSPCL, a total of 129 distribution transformers, 850 electricity poles, 8.57 km of conductor, 0.475 km of LT cable, and 0.25 km of HT cable were damaged during the storm.

In addition, damage to various electrical equipment was also reported from different circles, officials said.

The central zone emerged as the worst-affected region, recording losses of nearly Rs 1.11 crore, followed by the south zone with losses of around Rs 37.49 lakh.

The east zone reported damages worth Rs 20.57 lakh, while the north zone and west zone suffered losses of Rs 16.36 lakh and Rs 14.23 lakh, respectively.

The border zone recorded comparatively minor losses of Rs 6.68 lakh, they said.

The PSPCL teams were immediately pressed into service to restore the electricity supply in affected areas.

Officials noted that repair and restoration work was carried out on a war footing, and most affected feeders were restored within hours.

The corporation is continuing field inspections to assess the full extent of the damage and undertake permanent repairs. PTI COR CHS MPL MPL
