Chandigarh, May 16 (PTI) The Punjab State Election Commission on Saturday appointed 23 IAS and PCS officers as general observers for free and fair conduct of the upcoming local body polls, officials said.
Polling for 105 municipal bodies, including eight municipal corporations in Punjab, will be held on May 26. The counting of votes will take place on May 29, they said.
The elections will be held in eight municipal corporations — Mohali, Bathinda, Abohar, Barnala, Kapurthala, Moga, Batala and Pathankot.
Besides, polling will also be held for 76 municipal councils and 21 nagar panchayats.
Among those officers who have been appointed as general observers are PCS (Punjab Civil Services) officer Paramdeep Singh for Amritsar, IAS officer Parneet Shergill for Barnala, IAS officer Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar for Bathinda, PCS officer Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu for Ferozepur, IAS officer Rubinderjit Singh Brar for Faridkot, PCS officer Rishabh Bansal for Fazilka, IAS officer Hargunjit Kaur for Fatehgarh Sahib, PCS officer Rakesh Kumar Popli for Gurdaspur and PCS officer Harjot Kaur for Hoshiarpur.
