Chandigarh, Oct 5 (PTI) Punjab Cabinet on Monday gave its nod to the Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) Bill, 2026, which provides for establishing an Authority for planned, sustainable and eco-tourism-oriented development of the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi Dam areas.

The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann here gave its nod to the Bill, according to an official statement.

The proposed legislation would provide for the establishment of the Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) for planned, sustainable and eco-tourism-oriented development of the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi Dam areas, it said.

Under the administrative control of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the RDA will have requisite administrative, financial and regulatory powers for integrated development, land management, project implementation and destination governance.

The RDA will be chaired by the chief minister, with the tourism minister as its vice-chairman. An executive committee headed by the chief secretary will oversee its day-to-day functioning and interdepartmental coordination.

In another decision, the cabinet also approved new posts of drivers in the office of the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, which have been created by surrendering (dissolving) posts of peons from the 19 permanent posts and one permanent post of Moharrir (clerk/assistant).

The move is aimed at streamlining the functioning of the office of Punjab CEO, the statement said.

It also gave approval for an amendment in the Rules for filling up the posts of Tutor in Government College of Nursing, Patiala and Amritsar, under the Department of Medical Education and Research through promotion.

The posts will be filled from among staff nurses and nursing sisters working on a regular basis under the control of the Director, Research and Medical Education, Punjab, who have obtained an MSc (Nursing) in the concerned speciality. Preference will be given to candidates having one year of relevant teaching experience.

The cabinet also gave concurrence for regularisation of the services of non-teaching staff working on a contractual basis under the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES).

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
