Chandigarh, May 1 (PTI) Punjab unit of the BJP on Friday held a mock assembly session, with party leaders taking on the Bhagwant Mann government alleging it has failed on all fronts.
The mock session was held on a day when the Mann government has convened a special one-day session of the assembly.
Claiming that the Mann government does not permit the opposition to raise issues in the assembly, he said they decided to hold the “Janta Ki Vidhan Sabha” (mock session) to raise people’s issues.
In the mock session, which was held near the Punjab BJP office here, senior BJP leaders, including state BJP president Sunil Jakhar, working president Ashwani Sharma, and other senior leaders like Charanjit Singh Atwal, Tarun Chugh and Tikshan Sud were also present. Atwal was presiding over the session.
Before the mock session began, Chugh charged that the Mann government has failed on all fronts and various mafia were calling the shots.
He said the Mann government does not allow the opposition to raise people’s issues in the House.
Another senior BJP leader Vijay Sampla told reporters that the Mann government did nothing for the labour class for the past four years and today they are saying the special session is being called for them.
“They never paid any attention towards problems faced by the people and how to resolve them. This government has failed on all fronts,” Sampla charged.
The two BJP MLAs in the 117-member State Assembly are not attending Friday’s special session of the assembly.
Earlier this week, the Punjab cabinet had summoned a special one-day session of the State Assembly on the occasion of Labour Day on May 1.
In order to pay homage to the working class, the state cabinet, led by Mann, gave its nod to convene the session, an official release had said earlier.
The development to summon the session came days after the ruling AAP’s seven Rajya Sabha MPs, six of them from Punjab, quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the BJP.
Mann had earlier announced the “significant decision” to call the session.
“This one-day session will be dedicated to the hardworking labourers and artisans who make a vital contribution to the country’s social and economic development,” he had said. PTI SUN DV DV
