Chandigarh, Jul 29 (PTI) Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday targeted the state government over the law and order situation, citing AAP MP Balbir Singh Seechewal’s letter seeking redeployment of his security personnel amid “rising” incidents of theft and loot.
Calling the letter an indictment of the state government, Dhillon said, “The letter from the ruling party’s own MP has become the strongest evidence of the complete collapse of law and order in Punjab.” On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha MP Seechewal had written to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav and urged him to withdraw his six security personnel and deploy them at police stations, saying people needed protection more than him.
The MP requested that three of the six security personnel deployed with him be posted at the Lohian Khas Police Station and the remaining three at the Sultanpur Lodhi Police Station in Kapurthala district.
Referring to the letter, Dhillon said it was not an allegation made by the opposition but the “written testimony” of a sitting MP from the ruling party itself, “acknowledging that thefts, robberies and the drug menace have spiralled out of control in Punjab.” In a statement, the BJP leader questioned why Seechewal had to write to the DGP when his own party is in power in Punjab.
He said the question should instead be directed at AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that he was running Punjab through “remote control” from Delhi.
Dhillon further alleged that the AAP government has failed miserably in maintaining law and order in Punjab and was trying to evade its responsibilities.
“The state’s law-and-order machinery has been severely weakened. Crime is rising every day; even police stations are no longer secure, attacks are taking place on political party offices, and incidents of murder, theft and robbery in broad daylight have become commonplace,” he said. PTI CHS RHL
