Puducherry, Aug 14 (PTI) Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday greeted the people of the Union Territory on the eve of the 80th Independence Day.
In his message, the Lieutenant Governor stressed that it was the duty of every citizen to uphold the spirit of unity and national integration.
He said the country was making significant progress towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047, with development visible across various sectors.
Kailashnathan appealed to people to hoist the national flag atop every household as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
In his message, Rangasamy recalled the great sacrifices made by freedom fighters for the country’s independence and said the nation had made impressive progress.
He called for continued efforts to accelerate development and said August 16 would mark the 65th Liberation Day of Puducherry, commemorating the de jure transfer of the Union Territory and the merger of the erstwhile French establishments of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam with the Indian Union.
Rangasamy said Puducherry had made significant progress over the years and that the government was committed to promoting the welfare of all sections of society.
