Shimla, August 6 (PTI) Properties acquired through corrupt practices would be confiscated and distributed among the poor, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Thursday.
After dedicating and laying the foundation stones for various development projects worth around Rs 48 crore in the Kasumpti Assembly Constituency of Shimla district, he addressed the gathering, stating that individuals possessing disproportionate assets would be required to explain the legitimate sources of their wealth.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, he said the Congress government was firmly committed to protecting the interests and resources of the state’s people.
He said “properties acquired through corrupt practices would be confiscated and distributed among the poor,” according to a statement issued here.
The chief minister inaugurated the newly constructed Block Development Office building in Mashobra.
He also laid the foundation stone for the HPPWD division and sub-division Offices at Bhattakufar and Baldeyan, respectively, as well as the new ITI building at Mashobra and a link road project.
He alleged that the previous BJP government had weakened the state’s assets and allotted nearly 5,000 bighas of land in Baddi to industrialists at throwaway prices under the guise of industrial packages.
Earlier, the Chief Minister flagged off 137 vehicles in the first phase of the state’s rural solid waste management initiative. These vehicles will provide door-to-door waste collection services in rural areas, making waste management more efficient, scientific and environmentally sustainable.
He said gram panchayats would operate around 700 additional vehicles in the next phase to further strengthen rural sanitation and solid waste management across the state.
