Raipur, Jul 25 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday termed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation a “victory of Gen Z”, and said the youth defeated every attempt by the Narendra Modi government to suppress their movement.
Talking to reporters here, Baghel said Pradhan’s resignation marked “the victory of students across the country and Gen Z” and “the defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.” “The government’s baton charges, tear gas, pellets, and other measures failed to deter the students. They stood their ground,” the former Chhattisgarh chief minister said.
Investigation agencies including the Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department, Central Bureau of Investigation and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence were used to intimidate political opponents, industrialists and others in the past 12 years, but such tactics failed against the student movement, Baghel said.
“The students, particularly those between 18 and 30 years of age, have dismantled everything the Modi government had built over the last 12 years to instil fear,” he said, likening the protesting youth to the Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu in Hindu mythology.
“Just as Lord Narasimha overcame the protections granted to Prahlad’s father (Hiranyakashyap), the students emerged in that form and demonstrated that none of the Modi government’s weapons or strategies would work against them,” he said.
“One Pradhan has gone,” Baghel quipped.
To a reporter’s question, the Congress leader noted that the BJP’s social media machinery once branded activist Sonam Wangchuk as a “Chinese agent”, but later Union ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh were seen giving him juice when he ended his fast. PTI TKP KRK
