Hyderabad: A Chennai-bound Indigo flight from Delhi was diverted here on Sunday after smoke was detected from a customer’s personal electronic device kept in the overhead bin and the plane landed safely, the carrier said.

“IndiGo flight 6E 6115, operating from Delhi to Chennai on October 11, 2026, was diverted to Hyderabad after smoke was detected from a customer’s personal electronic device. The cabin crew responded promptly and the situation was brought under control,” Indigo said in a statement.

“In line with established protocols, the pilots diverted the flight and landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad,” it added.

Viral videos from the flight cabin show fire inside an overhead bin but the airline only mentioned smoke in its official statement.

An alternative aircraft was arranged for the passengers to continue the journey to Chennai, it added.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
