New Delhi: Gajjan Majra was arrested from a public meeting – an act his party called the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “politics of defamation”.

The probe agency detained the MLA from his Amargarh constituency in the afternoon when he was at a meeting with party workers. Gajjan Majra won the seat in the 2022 Punjab assembly elections.

The AAP leader is said to have evaded four summons by the ED before his arrest Monday.

The AAP’s Punjab spokesperson, Malvinder Singh Kang, said the lawmaker was involved in a case before he joined the party. In May last year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided a premises linked to Gajjan Majra in connection with the alleged bank fraud.

The ED raids came four months later as the agency began probing the lawmaker for money-laundering linked to the fraud. During last September’s raids, the ED had seized Rs 32 lakh in cash, several mobile phones and hard drives.
