Bhopal, Jul 18 (PTI) Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti on Friday said politicians, doctors, advocates, poets and journalists never retire from public service and continue serving till they are called to do so.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, however, categorically said she would not be able to comment on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent remarks quoting Sangh ideologue late Moropant Pingley about the need to retire at 75.
“I cannot comment on the remarks of the sarsanghchalak (Bhgwat). Firstly, I am also not a member of its traditional organization, but I am a follower of that ideology. I can’t comment on his remarks. But I believe that teachers, advocates, doctors, artists, poets and journalists never retire. They have to do public service till it is required,” Bharti told reporters when asked about Bhagwat’s remarks.
“The guru has to impart knowledge and the doctor has to feel the pulse. Even on the funeral pyre, if someone pleads for help, the leader has to come out alive,” Bharti asserted.
The knowledge of a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, a journalist, writer, musician is like that of a mother, she said.
“Even if a mother turns 80, she will love you. She will not say I have retired so I will not give you food. A person can serve society for a lifetime even after retirement and nobody ever retires from such a thing,” Bharti opined.
Asked for her stand if the Bharatiya Janata Party gave her a ticket to contest polls, the 66-year-old leader asserted she was “ready”, adding “I am not retired now”.
She also spoke about total prohibition, claiming it was a decision the government has to take, adding that a campaign was needed to ban drugs.
Cows will be protected when farmers rear them and support the government, she added. PTI MAS BNM
