Medininagar (Jharkhand), Jun 14 (PTI) The police on Sunday paraded a man, allegedly involved in the abduction and murder of a land dealer, in handcuffs from a police station to Central Jail in Medininagar town of Jharkhand’s Palamu district.

Following completion of the 24-hour remand for interrogation, a police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar Medininagar) Rajesh Yadav paraded the accused in handcuffs through the main thoroughfare of the town on the directive of Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary, an officer said.

The arrested man, Dilip Tiwari, was paraded from Chamuhan locality via Bus stand, Jailhata Chowk, to jail on foot.

The SDPO said the objective was to send a message to criminals that police would not hesitate to take stringent action against them, crush their morale and inculcate confidence among people.

The police claimed to have succeeded in extracting vital information regarding the crime in the course of the interrogation.

The police could not apprehend the other accused, including Dilip’s brother Pradeep Tiwari alias Mahakaal, who were reported at large for over a month after the incident.

Earlier, police had pasted a notice at the residences of the accused, warning them to surrender before the police or court, otherwise their properties would be attached.

On the night of April 25, the victim Vinit Tiwari, who used to deal in land, was abducted by four men from his home in Redma locality under Town police station limit of Medininagar, assaulted and murdered.

His naked body with injury marks was recovered the next morning from Jorkat area in Palamu district.

The crime might have been a fallout of a land dispute, an officer said.

The victim’s parents had lodged a complaint accusing two siblings — Pradeep and Dilip — of the crime.

Meanwhile, police have begun the process of property attachment of Pradeep. It would be implemented if he did not surrender soon, police officer added. PTI CORR BS NN
