Budaun (UP), Aug 1 (PTI) A police inspector has been transferred and a senior sub-inspector suspended in Budaun for allegedly helping a murder accused from Ghaziabad evade arrest by concealing his identity, officials said on Saturday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankita Sharma transferred Binawar SHO Arihant Kumar Siddharth to the Police Lines, while Senior Sub-Inspector Balveer Singh was placed under suspension.
Inspector Neeraj Kumar, who was posted at the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), has been appointed the new SHO of Binawar police station.
According to police, Vipin Prajapati (25) was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour following a heated argument in Ghaziabad’s Loni Border area on the intervening night of July 12 and 13. The main accused, Sonu, who carries a reward of Rs 20,000, had been absconding.
Police alleged that Sonu colluded with Siddharth and Singh and, on July 23, deliberately got himself arrested in another case and sent to jail to avoid arrest in the murder case.
At the time of his arrest, police allegedly recorded his name as Sohanpal alias Sujal, concealing his identity, officials said.
Following a report from the Ghaziabad police, the SSP directed SP (City) Abhishek Singh to conduct an inquiry, which found that the arrested man was, in fact, Sonu, the wanted murder accused.
Acting on the inquiry report late Friday night, the SSP transferred the inspector to the Police Lines and suspended the senior sub-inspector.
Police said SP (Rural) Hirdesh Katheria has been assigned to conduct a detailed probe into the matter. PTI COR NAV MDO MDO
