Lucknow, Oct 13 (PTI) Probe has intensified into the suspected murder of a 27-year-old cafe owner who died after falling from the fourth floor of an apartment here, with a hunt on for the live-in partner of the businessman, police said on Tuesday.

Besides the woman, a fashion model and social media influencer, the police are also looking for four more accused.

Shiva Sharma died on October 9 after falling from an apartment in Awadh Green Apartment in Lucknow.

While the incident was initially viewed as a possible accidental death, a complaint by his family alleging assault and torture prompted a murder investigation.

The police have booked for murder Shraddha Dubey, her sister, their driver, and two more people.

“Efforts are underway to arrest Shraddha Dubey and the other accused in connection with the case. We are investigating all aspects to establish the facts of the matter,” an officer posted in the Central Lucknow area told PTI.

Sharma’s mother, Ranjana Sharma, alleged that her son was held captive and brutally assaulted before being thrown off the building. She claimed that his body bore multiple injuries, including fractures to his jaw, both eye regions, ribs and a leg, as well as cigarette-burn marks and scratches.

The family also alleged that Dubey had been harassing Sharma for the past four to five months, assaulting him, and threatening to frame him in false cases.

According to the family, Dubey had visited their shop about a week before Sharma’s death and threatened them, demanding that they hand him over to her.

The allegations are yet to be ascertained as true.

Dubey has a background in fashion blogging, modelling and participation in fashion events. She holds a master’s degree and a postgraduate diploma in Computer Applications. She began exploring modelling and fashion blogging in Hyderabad before establishing herself in Lucknow.

Her Instagram account, as checked on Tuesday, had around 1.41 lakh followers, with much of its content centred on fashion, clothing and lifestyle.

A music video featuring her, released by Zee Music Company on YouTube in February 2019, has garnered around 2.78 lakh views. PTI KIS VN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
