Agra (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) Police on Monday foiled an attempt by office-bearers of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha to perform ‘jalabhishek’ at the Taj Mahal on the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan, officials said.

Hindu Mahasabha members, led by the organisation’s Agra district president Meera Rathore, along with women kanwariyas, reached the Taj Mahal around 7 am carrying Ganga water.

Police stopped them at the monument’s western gate, leading to a heated exchange between the protesters and security personnel.

Tajganj Station House Officer Neeraj Kumar Sharma said the kanwariyas were escorted under police security to the Rajeshwar Mahadev Temple, where they performed the ‘jalabhishek’ with the Ganga water.

Rathore said the organisation would continue its campaign and make similar attempts on the remaining three Mondays of Sawan to perform ‘jalabhishek’ of Lord Shiva. PTI COR KIS SKY SKY
