Jammu, May 6 (PTI) An old rusted mortar shell was recovered and safely destroyed in the Arnia border belt of Jammu district on Wednesday, averting a potential threat to the public, police said.

According to officials, the Treva Border Police Post in charge informed them about a suspicious, rusted mortar shell lying in an open field at Treva village in the Arnia area.

Inspector Chandan Singh, along with a bomb disposal squad team, rushed to the spot. After assessing the situation, the team destroyed the unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the spot, they said.
