Jammu, May 6 (PTI) An old rusted mortar shell was recovered and safely destroyed in the Arnia border belt of Jammu district on Wednesday, averting a potential threat to the public, police said.
According to officials, the Treva Border Police Post in charge informed them about a suspicious, rusted mortar shell lying in an open field at Treva village in the Arnia area.
Inspector Chandan Singh, along with a bomb disposal squad team, rushed to the spot. After assessing the situation, the team destroyed the unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the spot, they said.
They said the disposal was carried out in accordance with the established Standard Operating Procedures, while taking all necessary precautions.
The operation was conducted in the presence of BSF (border security force) personnel and the Treva Border Police Post in charge, ensuring complete safety of the surrounding areas, they said. PTI AB AB RUK RUK
