New Delhi, May 28 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to TDP founder and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister NT Rama Rao on his 103rd birth anniversary, and said his commitment towards public welfare and governance ensured dignity for the poor and the marginalised.

Actor-politician NT Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, was born on May 28, 1923, and died on January 18, 1996, at the age of 72.

“Tributes to the great NTR Garu on his birth anniversary. He is fondly remembered for his commitment towards public welfare and governance which ensured dignity for the poor and marginalised,” Modi said in a post on X.

The prime minister also said that NTR’s contributions to cinema continue to captivate generations.

“His life and ideals remain a source of immense inspiration. The NDA government in Andhra Pradesh, under the leadership of my friend Chandrababu Naidu Garu, is committed to advancing the aspirations he cherished for the people,” Modi said.

NTR founded the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982 and served three terms as the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. He acted in about 300 films and rose to superstardom in Telugu cinema.

The TDP is now headed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. With 16 Lok Sabha MPs, TDP is a key constituent of the NDA at the Centre. PTI ACB ARI ARI
