Panaji, May 6 (PTI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi foiled Bangladeshi infiltrators’ attempts to invade West Bengal by ensuring BJP’s victory in the assembly polls in that state.

Addressing a public meeting at Vasco, Sawant said it was PM Modi who undertook the task of pushing back the Bangladeshi infiltrators.

He recalled that it is due to the efforts of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) that West Bengal remained with India during the creation of Bangladesh.

“Once again, the Bangladeshi infiltrators would have invaded West Bengal, but our Prime Minister Narendra Modi foiled it during the recent election,” he said.

“That is why the people of West Bengal blessed Modi ji,” he added.

Sawant said his government has never tolerated any attempts to divide people on the basis of religion.

“The opposition parties always work to divide the communities but my government has foiled their attempts,” the CM said. PTI RPS NP
