New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over loss of lives due to an explosion at a firecracker factory in Uttar Pradesh and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Eleven people, including eight children, were killed and five injured after a massive explosion at a firecracker factory destroyed its building and six other houses in Kaushambi district this afternoon. Several people were feared trapped under the debris, and a large-scale rescue operation was underway.
“Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap at a firecracker factory in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover at the earliest,” Modi said in a post on ‘X’.
