New Delhi, Jun 19 (PTI) The CBI will move the Bombay High Court against the acquittal of former Maharashtra home minister Padamsinh Patil and seven others in the murder case of state Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver, officials here said on Saturday.
A special court in Mumbai acquitted Patil and others in the case on Saturday, saying the testimony of an accused-turned-approver did not prove the chain of events.
“As the CBI had brought out very good evidence against accused in the case, the CBI will be challenging the judgement of the trial court before the high court,” a Central Bureau of Investigation spokesperson said.
Nimbalkar was murdered in broad daylight on June 3, 2006, in Navi Mumbai along with his driver.
The high court had handed over the investigation to the CBI. The agency had filed a chargesheet on August 20, 2009, and followed it up with a supplementary chargesheet. PTI ABS DIV DIV
