New Delhi: The Patna Police has registered an FIR against Khurpenchh, an anonymous social media watchdog account on X, over a satirical reel on Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and his previous switches between political parties.

The reel, which refers to the Bihar CM as “Bro Halfdivit”, showed how Choudhary changed four parties. “Bro’s name is Samrat Chaudhary. He is the accidental CM of Bihar. First he was with the Samata Party, then he started a love affair with the RJD, then he broke up and did a setting (sic) with JD(U). When that did not work out, he began his fourth affair with BJP,” the video says.

The video also refers to the controversy over the CM’s educational qualifications and claims he turns a blind eye towards the “mafia circus” in his state. “In the wake of the Jamui incident, Bro tells people: Commit crimes but not record them in reels,” it says.

Khurpenchh was referring to a 19 September incident where two Class 10 students were allegedly harassed by a group of men in Bihar’s Jamui district.

Speaking about the incident, Choudhary said criminals should not challenge the police and warned that they would “get the answer in 24 hours”. He then referred to the growing trend of making reels and videos. “People are being killed for making reels. You must have seen today’s incident. If he had not made a reel, would he have been caught?” Choudhary had said, according to the video being circulated online.

Taking cognisance of Khurpenchh’s X post, the Patna police registered an FIR against the page on 25 October under BNS sections related to promotion of hatred, intentional insult with intention to breach peace, and sections of the IT Act related to unauthorised access, hacking, data theft.

“The investigating officer has received a Twitter ID related to your law enforcement. This case is related to defamation crime, intentional insult and criminal intimidation because derogatory and offensive words about the hon’ble CM Samrat Choudhary ji are being circulated on social media,” the FIR, accessed by ThePrint, read.

Khurpenchh reacted by reposting the same video with the message: “Ek taraf Bihar ke mukhyamantri Samrat Chaudhary reel banane ke liye protsahit karte hai, jab humne reel banai to FIR kardi, kya yahi inam hai (On one hand, Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary is encouraging people to make reels, and when we made a reel, they did an FIR, what kind of reward is this?).”

Another post by Khurpenchh, which showed the CM on a foot march, said: “First in my bloodline to witness a Chief Minister file an FIR over factually correct criticism and then lead a march to ‘save democracy’.”

This is the fourth FIR against Khurpenchh. In April, food safety watchdog FSSAI had registered a FIR against the page for “data breach and official document leakage”. Another FIR was registered in Kanpur earlier this year after the page uploaded a video claiming that several villagers in UP’s Sachendi were being targeted by cyber scammers.

ThePrint has reached out to the Patna Cyber Police for comment over phone. This report will be updated if and when a response is received.
