Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an investigation into alleged irregularities in a land deal involving Parth Pawar, the son of Deputy CM and NCP leader Ajit Pawar. Fadnavis Thursday called the matter as being prima facie a ‘serious one’.

The case involves purchase of a land parcel in Pune’s Mundhwa by Amadea Enterprises LLP, a firm in which Parth is one of the two directors.

Amadea allegedly purchased the land for Rs 300 crore, as against its estimated value at Rs 1,804 crore, activist Anjali Damania alleged on X; though the land registration document Damania shared mentions the market price of the land parcel as Rs 294.65 crore.

According to the original valuation, the stamp duty payable was Rs 21 crore, but was waived off ahead of the purchase. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fadnavis said he had instructed the revenue department, the Inspector General of Registration and the Land Records Office to compile a comprehensive report. “I have requested all pertinent details regarding the case. The preliminary information seems serious. Once we receive the complete report, we will take appropriate action,” he said.

The inquiry committee will be led by IAS Vikas Kharge, who is the Assistant Chief Secretary of the revenue department.

Emphasising that Ajit Pawar would not condone any misconduct, he added, “Our government is unanimous in this regard. We are of the opinion that if there is any irregularity anywhere, action should be taken against it.

“Therefore, it will definitely be verified whether there is any irregularity or not. If there is any irregularity, very strict action will be taken against it.”

ThePrint reached Parth Pawar for comment via calls and messages but had not received a response by the time of publication. This report will be updated if a response is received.

According to Damania, the land deal involves Amadea Holdings, a limited liability partnership firm with an authorised share capital of Rs 1 lakh. Parth Pawar is one of its two partners, the other being Digvijay Patil. The firm was incorporated on 27 December 2021 and is registered at the Registrar of Companies, in Pune.

The document shared by Damania also says Amadea paid Rs 30,000 as registration charges for the 16.19-hectare land parcel. The same document mentions the purchase price as Rs 300 crore and the market price as Rs 294.65 crore.

Per the prevailing rate, the stamp duty payable was Rs 21 crore which was waived off in just 48 hours, and the firm only paid Rs 500 for registration, Damania alleged.

“Ajit Pawar, who says farmers always need free (things) and waivers, but son’s deal is worth Rs 1,804 crore. There was a stamp duty of 126 crore on it. But this deal is shown to be worth 300 crore and 21 crore waived off! Wasn’t this waiver free,” Damania asked.

Reacting to the allegations, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve called it a blatant abuse of power as he alleged that the company linked to Parth Pawar was given possession of the land within 48 hours of the Directorate of Industries granting a stamp duty exemption. The entire deal was finalised in 27 days, said Danve.

Calling the matter “full of confusion, corruption and malpractice of the ruling party,” Danve said, “A 40-acre mahar vatan land, belonging to the government, is reserved for a specific purpose. A 40-acre land in an area like Pune’s Koregaon park has a minimum valuation of Rs 1,800 crore and maximum valuation of Rs 2,500-3,000 crore.”

He added, “They showed the valuation as 300 crore and the registry was done on a bond of Rs 500. How does the government allot the land to this company in two days?”

“This land is said to be purchased for the construction of an IT park and a data centre in Pune’s Koregaon Park,” alleged Danve.

Reacting to the suspension of Pune Tehsildar Suryakant Yewle in connection with the case, Damania called him a “scapegoat”.

Adding, “If you have the courage, take action against Ajit Pawar.”

Speaking to the press, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said, “I have nothing to do with the Parth Pawar land case, no one will misuse my name. I am looking into the whole matter. Three or four months ago, I heard that such a method was going on. I said that no one should do such wrong things.”

He added, “As deputy CM, I will tell the authorities that if someone uses my name to do something wrong and does not follow the rules, they will not have my support. I am an activist who works within the framework of laws and regulations. The CM should investigate, it is his right.”

Speaking to reporters Thursday, NCP (SP) Member of Parliament Supriya Sule said, “We believe in democracy. I had expectations from the chief minister. His first term was good, the good should not say good things, but what has happened to the Chief Minister now? Why such a mess?”

“Who exactly runs the government? The Tehsildar has been suspended. The Tehsildar says I did not sign. So, has it (the land) been registered or not? Who exactly runs the government,” asked Sule, who is Ajit Pawar’s cousin.
