New Delhi: Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has crossed the previous record of Deendayal Port in the country of total cargo handling of 145.38 million metric tonnes in the fiscal year 2023-24 for the 1st time in 56 years, a PIB press release stated.

This achievement is a testament to the efforts of the port management team and the infrastructure development of the port. The historic achievement of Paradip Port is not only limited to the country’s largest port of cargo handling by volume, but it also reflects the port’s growing importance as a hub for coastal shipping.

During the financial year, the port recorded a growth of 10.02 million metric tonnes (7.4%) on a year-over-year basis. This growth is driven by the expansion of shipping facilities and the development of new infrastructure. The port has also achieved a significant milestone in improving its berth productivity, enabling it to handle 33014 metric tonnes of cargo at a berth productivity of 33014 MT, which is the highest among all the ports of the country.

This achievement is the result of the implementation of various system improvement measures by the port management team. The Paradip Port Authority has also taken steps to promote green technologies and sustainable development. The port has planted 2 lakh saplings during the last year, and it is expected to reach 1 million tree plantations by the year 2025. The port has also planned to develop a 10 MW solar power plant to power the operations of the port, making it the first port in the country to run on 100% renewable energy.

The Paradip Port Authority’s efforts to invest in infrastructure development and enhance operational efficiency have driven it to the top of the country in cargo handling. This achievement is not only limited to the growth in cargo volume, but it also reflects the port’s growing importance as a hub for coastal shipping and a key player in the country’s economic growth.
