Gangtok, May 2 (PTI) Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Saturday said the Himalayan state moving towards becoming the country’s first paperless judiciary is a historic step towards realising the dream of ‘Digital India’.
Mathur on Saturday attended the closing ceremony of the two-day conference on ‘Technology and Judicial Education’ organised by the Sikkim High Court and Sikkim Judicial Academy at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok.
“Moving towards becoming the country’s first fully paper-less judiciary by Sikkim is a historic step towards realising the dream of ‘Digital India’. This initiative will further empower the direction of modernisation of the judiciary,” he said in his address.
At the inaugural session of the conclave on Friday, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant had declared Sikkim to be the first paperless state judiciary in the country.
The Governor said this initiative will not only speed up the process of justice, but also make it more transparent and accessible for common citizens through e-filing and digital records, according to an official release.
He said that technical innovation, such as artificial intelligence and digital management, are now mandatory tools of not just convenience, but also accountable and empowering the judicial system.
The inclusion of technology in judicial education will not only organise legal processes, but also prepare future legal leadership to the beginning of a new, just and modern democratic era, Mathur added. PTI CORR RBT
