Chandigarh, Sep 7 (PTI) Panchkula Police have launched a special verification drive for delivery agents working with online food delivery, e-commerce and other companies to strengthen security in the Haryana district, officials said on Monday.
The initiative was launched on the directions of Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, Pankaj Nain.
Police teams from police stations, police posts and special units will collect and verify the identity and background details of delivery riders, according to a statement.
DCP Panchkula Aditi Singh said details including the delivery agent’s name, mobile number, permanent and current addresses, identity documents and company or agency details would be collected during the verification process.
The concerned companies and agencies would also be directed to maintain complete records of their employees and ensure their verification from time to time, she said.
Nain said Panchkula Police had contacted various delivery companies operating in the district and collected data of their riders.
Police-level verification of all riders, including checks of their identities, addresses and criminal records, has now been started, he said.
The purpose of the initiative was not to target any particular person or group but to strengthen the city’s security system and develop an effective information network to help prevent criminal activities, Nain said.
The police will also ensure that when a delivery agent leaves one company and joins another, his employment details are updated in the concerned company’s records.
This would help police identify a person and track relevant information more easily if he is found involved in any criminal activity, officials said. PTI SUN MDO MDO
