Chandigarh, Sep 22 (PTI) Over 4.60 lakh electors are registered in the final electoral roll of the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency which was published on Tuesday in the wake of the Special Intensive Revision exercise.
According to officials, as of Tuesday, 4,60,209 electors are registered in the final electoral roll of the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency comprising 2,34,516 males, 2,25,671 females and 22 transgender electors.
The SIR of electoral rolls was undertaken in the Union Territory of Chandigarh with effect from June 5. It was one of the 16 states and 3 UTs included in the third phase of the SIR 2026.
Chandigarh’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Prerna Puri said that the final photo electoral rolls are available for verification at the offices of the electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) and with the booth level officers (BLOs). It is also available for download on the official website of the CEO, Chandigarh.
The SIR exercise in Chandigarh involved extensive field verification, scrutiny of claims and objections, hearings and due consideration of documents submitted by electors, an official statement said.
It was undertaken with due diligence to ensure that every eligible elector is included and no ineligible entry remains on the electoral roll.
The successful completion of the exercise reflects the coordinated efforts of all election functionaries and the cooperation extended by electors and other stakeholders, it said.
In accordance with the prescribed schedule, the final electoral roll was published on Tuesday, with July 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.
A meeting with representatives of recognised political parties was also held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Electoral Registration Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh.
He informed the representatives about the various stages of the revision process, including the enumeration phase and the publication of the draft and final electoral rolls.
In accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India, copies of the final electoral roll were also handed over to the representatives, the statement said.
“As a result of the revision exercise, 15,117 electors were included and 5,190 electors were deleted in the final electoral roll. Consequently, the electorate increased from 4,50,282 in the draft electoral roll to 4,60,209 in the final electoral roll, representing a net increase of 2.20 per cent, that is 9,927 electors.
“The final electoral roll comprises 2,34,516 male, 2,25,671 female and 22 transgender electors,” it said.
The statement said that the total number of electors as on July 15, 2026, prior to the commencement of the enumeration phase, was 5,16,427, comprising 2,63,724 male, 2,52,677 female and 26 transgender electors.
Enumeration forms were generated and printed for all 5,16,427 electors and distributed through the BLOs. Out of these, 4,50,282 forms were received back from the electors, while 66,145 electors whose forms were not received back were excluded from the draft electoral roll, it said.
The list of such electors whose enumeration forms were not received back was published, indicating the probable causes as “absent, shifted, death, duplicate and others”. The breakup comprised 12,567 absent, 43,725 shifted, 3,535 dead, 2,590 duplicate and 3,728 others.
The draft electoral roll was published on July 21 with 4,50,282 electors, comprising 2,29,555 male, 2,20,706 female and 21 transgender electors.
Out of the total electors in the draft roll, 3,80,821 electors were mapped as self or progeny, while 69,461 electors remained unmapped. The mapping included 1,67,406 self-mapped and 2,13,415 progeny-mapped electors, the statement said.
During the notice phase from July 21 to September 18, notices were served to 1,38,000 electors, including 69,500 unmapped electors and 68,700 electors having logical discrepancies. Decisions in respect of the unmapped electors and logical discrepancies were taken by the concerned EROs/ AEROs after conducting hearings and verifying the documents submitted by the electors and undertakings submitted by the BLOs.
Out of the 4,50,282 electors in the draft electoral roll, 4,644 electors whose documents were found inadmissible/ unsatisfactory, or who were absent or found dead, shifted or repeated during the hearing process, were marked as ineligible by passing speaking orders.
For the preparation of the final electoral roll, 17,891 claims and objections filed during the claims and objections period from July 21 to August 20 were processed. In addition, all forms received before July 21 were also processed for final publication. PTI SUN KSS
