Over 36,500 challans issued in Gurugram traffic enforcement drive

Gurugram, Oct 5 (PTI) The Gurugram traffic police issued 36,518 challans and imposed fines totalling more than Rs 3.83 crore on traffic violators during a week-long enforcement drive, police said on Monday.

The special enforcement drive was conducted from September 28 to October 4 to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic rules, they said.

Of the total challans, 18,837 were issued through field enforcement and 17,681 through cameras, police said.

Among the challans issued through field enforcement, 1,486 were for wrong-side driving, 150 for violation of road markings, 960 for pillion riders not wearing helmets, 366 for driving without seat belts, 1,331 for driving without helmets, 311 for drunk driving, 1,127 for wrong parking, 118 for dangerous U-turns, 260 for triple riding, 141 for overspeeding, 56 for using mobile phones while driving, 56 for noise pollution violations and 1,047 for improper lane changes.

Of the camera-issued challans, 11,134 were for lane-changing violations, 3,960 for no-entry violations, 859 for overspeeding, 181 for pillion riders not wearing helmets, 62 for drivers not wearing helmets, 168 for triple riding, 555 for drivers not wearing seat belts, 671 for pollution-related violations and 84 for front passengers not wearing seat belts.

A total fine of Rs 3,83,22,400 was imposed through field-level challans during the period, police said.

A senior traffic police officer said special surveillance was being maintained on NH-48, Dwarka Expressway and Mumbai Expressway.

“Continuous enforcement action is being taken against motorists violating lane discipline and overspeeding with the assistance of NHAI cameras and drone technology,” the officer said.

The traffic police also conducted awareness programmes at 12 locations through the Suraksha Rath, sensitising more than 400 citizens and students about traffic rules, Dial-112 and helpline number 1095, he said.

The traffic police appealed to the public to follow traffic rules, maintain road discipline and cooperate in ensuring a safe, orderly and smooth traffic system. PTI COR MDO
