Over 250 people held under Rajasthan Police’s statewide checking drive after CM’s directions

Jaipur, Jul 17 (PTI) The Rajasthan Police conducted a statewide special drive on Thursday and inspected more than 61,000 vehicles, during which more than 250 accused and suspects were detained, and cases were registered under the Arms Act, NDPS Act and Excise Act, officials said on Friday.

The statewide operation was launched following directions issued by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma during a recent review meeting on crime control, illegal activities and road safety.

Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma issued instructions for simultaneous checking across all districts.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V K Singh said police checked 61,909 vehicles, including 32,732 two-wheelers and 29,177 four-wheelers, at 912 strategic checkpoints across the state’s nine police ranges and commissionerates.

Police registered 13,761 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act during the drive. These included action against 4,554 two-wheeler riders for riding without helmets, 1,192 motorists for not wearing seat belts, 334 drivers for drunken driving, 1,428 vehicles with illegal black films on windows, 1,557 vehicles with improper or unclear registration plates and 137 motorists for using mobile phones while driving.

During the operation, police arrested 83 persons wanted in various criminal cases and detained 169 suspects under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Twenty-three vehicles were also seized under the BNSS, Singh said.

Police also registered 13 cases under the Arms Act, 50 under the Excise Act and 12 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to officials, Jaipur Range police seized 142 grams of opium, 194 litres of country liquor, 10 litres of illicit liquor, a pistol, a country-made firearm, a car and Rs 97,000 in suspected stolen cash during the drive.

Kota Range police recovered 2.954 kg of ganja, sharp-edged weapons and illicit liquor, while Bharatpur Range seized 210 quarter bottles of country liquor and registered eight cases under the Excise Act, they said.

The DGP said similar enforcement drives against criminals, illegal activities and traffic violations would continue across the state. PTI SDA PRK
