New Delhi: The march of the over-the-top (OTT) platforms continues in India with a recent report revealing that subscriptions after the pandemic had gone up 49 per cent.

Ahmedabad’s premier academic institute MICA reported that 29 million subscribers had paid for 53 million OTT video subscriptions in 2020.

The fourth edition of the Indian OTT Platforms Report 2021 – studying post-pandemic consumption – said men aged 15 to 24 watched more content than women.

Due to the ban on Chinese video-focused social networking service TikTok, there has been an increase in launches of indigenous shot format platforms and also consumption.

The report says online gaming has caught on more due to more screen time.

While crime thrillers dominated the content consumption genre, biopics were the most favourite among Indian watchers.

The report this year added edutainment platforms, social media platforms, two regional video platforms and bundled platforms

The survey is an initiative of the Centre for Media and Entertainment Studies (CMES). CMES, a MICA initiative, “aims to bridge the gap between academia and the media and entertainment industries through research-based solutions for enduring contemporary issues and problems”.
