One VDG member killed, another injured in firing incident in JK’s Udhampur

Jammu, Aug 14 (PTI) One Village Defence Guard (VDG) member was killed and another critically injured after a fellow VDG member allegedly opened fire on them following a scuffle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur on Friday, officials said.

The incident took place in remote Pancheri area when the VDG members were heading for Damnot police post, the officials said.

They said Surjeet Singh, a resident of Sasri Damnot, fired on his colleagues in a fit of rage, killing Baldev Singh and critically injuring Romesh Singh.

The injured person was shifted to hospital, while a police party rushed to the scene immediately after getting the information.

The efforts are on to arrest the accused, the officials said, adding the exact cause of the altercation and the sequence of events leading to the firing were yet to be established. PTI TAS NB NB
