Etah/Meerut (UP), Aug 22 (PTI) A kanwariya was killed and five others sustained injuries in Meerut when a truck hit the side of a pick-up vehicle carrying the devotees from Haridwar to Etah on Saturday night, police said.

The injured have been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut, and one of them has been brought to Etah for treatment.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Elamaran G said that a group of around 20 people from Senakala village was returning from Haridwar with kanwars. During the journey, a truck sideswiped the pick-up vehicle.

Authorities have arrested the truck driver involved in the incident.

Chandrapal (42), a resident of Sainakala, died in the accident. Vishal (15), Ranjana Devi (35), Sundarlal (30), and Atul Kumar (18) sustained serious injuries.

According to the SSP, another injured person, Avnish (approximately 30), has reached Etah, where he is receiving medical care. The other members of the ‘Kanwar Yatra’ group are safe.

The body of the deceased was sent for a post-mortem examination, and it has reached Sainakala village, police said. PTI COR NAV MPL MPL
