Mumbai, Apr 24 (PTI) A fire broke out at five to six scrap godowns in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area early on Friday, leaving one person injured, civic officials said.

The fire erupted around 5 am at Kurla Scrap Dealers in Ekta Nagar, Mandala, along the Govandi-Mankhurd Link Road, they said.

A person, identified as Shahrukh Khan (25), sustained 40 to 45 per cent burns and was admitted to the civic-run Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, also known as Sion Hospital. He is said to be in a stable condition, they said.

Four fire engines and other firefighting vehicles were rushed to the spot, and the blaze was doused around 8.40 am, said an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

He said the fire affected electric wiring and installations, LPG cylinders, tarpaulin sheets, oil drums, plywood, steel sheets and scrap material stored in the ‘galas’ (units). PTI KK NR
