Bhubaneswar, Aug 8 (PTI) Odisha received investment proposals worth Rs 66,392 crore with the potential to generate 54,135 jobs during its two-day investment outreach in New Delhi, which concluded on Saturday, the chief minister’s office said.

The state also signed 38 MoUs involving investments of Rs 64,703 crore and received Investment Intention Forms (IIFs) worth Rs 1,689 crore, an official statement said.

The outreach followed the successful Odisha Food Pro 2026 on Friday and featured one-on-one meetings between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and leading investors and industry representatives, besides sector-focused roundtable discussions.

Majhi also visited the Haier manufacturing facility in Noida, where he interacted with senior company officials and technicians and reviewed the company’s manufacturing processes and systems.

The visit provided an opportunity to understand advanced manufacturing practices and explore potential opportunities to strengthen the state’s manufacturing ecosystem, particularly in electronics, consumer durables, supply chains and ancillary industries, the statement said.

“Odisha is building an ecosystem where industries can grow, create jobs and build long-term value. Our focus is not only on attracting investment, but also on creating employment, strengthening local supply chains and opening new opportunities for the youth. We want investors to see Odisha as a reliable and long-term partner for growth,” Majhi said.

An Engineering Goods Manufacturing Roundtable, organised in association with the Indian Industries Association, discussed opportunities in manufacturing, industrial infrastructure, ancillary development and supply-chain integration in the state.

A Textile and Apparel Roundtable, organised in association with the Noida Apparel Export Cluster, focused on textile and apparel manufacturing, export opportunities, skilled workforce and employment-intensive investments.

An Aluminium Ancillary and Downstream Roundtable, organised in association with NALCO, explored opportunities to expand aluminium value addition, downstream manufacturing, ancillary industries and MSME participation in the state, officials said.

Concluding the outreach, Majhi said Odisha was ready for the ‘Purvodaya’ initiative.

“The response from industry during these two days has been very encouraging. We have received investment proposals of around Rs 66,392 crore. This has been a successful investor outreach and reflects the growing confidence of industry in Odisha,” he said.

Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the response from industry in Delhi-NCR reflected growing confidence in Odisha’s investment ecosystem.

“Our priority is to facilitate investors, strengthen sector-specific value chains and create more employment opportunities for the people of Odisha. We are working to ensure that the investment interest generated through these engagements is converted into projects on the ground and contributes to the state’s long-term industrial growth,” Swain said.

The Opposition BJD, however, criticised the BJP-led government’s approach towards industrialisation.

“The state government has failed to retain the major industries which had shown interest during the BJD regime. They are now shifting to other states,” party spokesperson Lenin Mohanty alleged.

He claimed that while the BJP government maintained that reputed industries were keen to invest in Odisha, the situation on the ground was different.

Mohanty cited the example of UK-based semiconductor company SRAM & MRAM, which had signed an MoU with the previous BJD government in March 2023 for a proposed investment of Rs 30,000 crore.

The BJD leader also cited central government data and claimed that Odisha received only Rs 39 crore in foreign direct investment (FDI) during 2024-25, accounting for 0.009 per cent of India’s total FDI inflow during the year.

He questioned how many of the investment proposals announced by the state government had translated into actual projects.

Mohanty said the state had organised investor meets in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Gujarat, Singapore and Japan over the past two years and questioned how many of the proposals had been converted into projects on the ground. PTI AAM AAM MNB
