Bhubaneswar, Sep 9 (PTI) Odisha Vigilance officers on Monday arrested two revenue officials for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from an applicant, officials said.
Kalyani Jena, revenue inspector (RI), and Purna Chandra Behera, assistant RI, both posted at Siula revenue circle under Pipili tehsil in Puri district, were arrested while allegedly accepting the bribe from an applicant for processing and forwarding an enquiry report in a mutation case related to conversion of his land, the Vigilance department said in a statement.
The two officials allegedly demanded the bribe from the applicant for converting his agricultural land into homestead land.
Despite repeated requests by the applicant, the accused allegedly insisted on receiving the money, it said.
After failing to meet the demand, the applicant approached the Vigilance authorities, following which a trap was laid and the two officials were arrested, the department said.
Following the arrests, Vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous searches at their offices and residences, an officer said.
A case has been registered against the two officials at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, he said. PTI BBM BBM MNB
