Bhadrak (Odisha), Oct 19 (PTI) Two persons, including a patient, were killed when an ambulance carrying them collided with an SUV and then crashed into a divider on National Highway 16 in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Monday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Malati Dandapath (65) and her granddaughter, 18-year-old Khushi Guru, residents of Bandpatana village near Kharagpur town in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district.

Khushi was unwell, and her family was taking her in a private ambulance to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment, a police officer said.

Khushi’s mother Baruna Guru and father Shibanath Guru sustained critical injuries in the crash.

The ambulance first hit the SUV from behind before veering off and crashing into the road divider, Bhadrak Rural police station inspector-in-charge Subrata Das said.

Police have detained the ambulance driver in connection with the accident and further investigation is underway, he added. PTI BBM BBM ACD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
