Thiruvananthapuram, May 1 (PTI) ANRF CEO Shivkumar Kalyanaraman on Friday visited the research lab CSIR-NIIST here and announced that there will be no dearth of funding for projects that demonstrate clear societal and national impact.
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) is an apex body to provide high-level strategic direction of scientific research in the country as per the National Education Policy.
Kalyanaraman, during his visit to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR–NIIST), interacted with the scientists here and emphasised ANRF’s strong focus on research with measurable impact, a release by the institution said.
He also highlighted that the foundation is keen to support programmes that can be translated into large-scale field-level implementation, it said.
“He also outlined various funding opportunities available through ANRF and encouraged scientists to pursue ambitious, outcome-driven proposals, noting that there is no dearth of funding for projects that demonstrate clear societal and national impact,” the release said.
During his interaction with the scientists, he was presented with an overview of the institute’s ongoing research activities, major achievements, and emerging interdisciplinary initiatives.
It further said that the visit highlighted the role of ANRF as a newly established statutory body aimed at driving a transformational shift in India’s research and innovation ecosystem.
Dr C Anandharamakrishnan, Director of CSIR–NIIST, welcomed Kalyanaraman’s visit, stating that it provided valuable insights into the evolving national research landscape and the vision of ANRF.
“The interaction has opened up new opportunities for collaborative, interdisciplinary and mission-oriented research, further strengthening our commitment to addressing national priorities through science and innovation,” the CSIR-NIIST director said.
During his visit, the ANRF CEO also toured several key research facilities at CSIR–NIIST, like the Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) and food processing units, where he was apprised of ongoing efforts in carbon management, sustainable technologies, and value-added food processing innovations aimed at societal impact.
Additionally, he also visited the Designer Rice research programme, where he saw the efforts to develop value-added rice varieties with enhanced nutritional profiles, improved glycaemic response, and functional properties aimed at addressing dietary and health needs, the release said. PTI HMP ROH
