Seraikela (Jharkhand), Aug 25 (PTI) The police did not make any breakthrough in connection with the murder of a businessman in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district a day ago, an officer said on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Kanderbeda on NH33 on Monday.

“We are investigating the incident from all possible angles and will let you know if any development takes place in this regard,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chandil) Shiv Prakash Kumar told PTI.

“We are examining CCTV footage to identify the assailants, questioning some suspects and conducting raids in all possible criminal hideouts,” he said.

The incident occurred when the victim Nikhar Sablok, a hotelier and dealing in other businesses including real estate, along with friends visited a restaurant on Tata-Ranchi highway under Chandil police station on Monday afternoon, the police officer said.

Motorcycle-borne assailants opened fired injuring Sablok critically, and escaped. The businessman was taken to Tata a hospital in Jamshedpur where doctors declared him dead.

Police had recovered some empty cartridges from the spot.

Meanwhile, the Congress and Janata Dal (United) condemned the killing of Sablok, a resident of Kadma under Kadma police limit of Jamshedpur.

The open rampage of criminals continues unabated in Jamshedpur, AICC spokesman-cum-former Jamshedpur MP Dr Ajoy Kumar commented on social media on Monday night.

The Congress, a coalition partner in the JMM-led coalition government, demanded a high-level intervention in this matter.

Janata Dal (United) legislator Saryu Roy claimed that the web of politics, crime, and ambition that has spread in Jamshedpur has taken the life of a young entrepreneur.

“He had become close to me in 2016. A year earlier, he distanced himself from me,” Roy said. PTI BS NN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
