New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another accused involved in a conspiracy related to the circulation of counterfeit currency notes through the Punjab National Bank (PNB) currency chest in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Nitu, a resident of Kunja Bahadurpur village in the Bhagwanpur area of Haridwar in Uttarakhand, they said.
He is a close associate of key accused Adesh Choudhary and other accused people in the conspiracy involving the circulation of counterfeit currency notes, a statement issued by the NIA said.
On August 29, 2026, the Sadar Bazar police station in Saharanpur received information regarding the recovery of counterfeit Indian currency notes with a face value of Rs 17.29 crore from the currency chest of PNB and registered a case.
The involvement of three bank employees also came to light, and they were subsequently suspended by the bank.
The NIA took over the case and re-registered it on September 3.
The central agency arrested FIR-named accused Amit Kumar and key accused Adesh Choudhary, Mukesh Kumar, and Rajender on September 7, 15, and 20, respectively.
Investigation is ongoing to uncover the complete conspiracy and to arrest the remaining co-accused persons and suspects, the statement said. PTI AKV RHL
