New Delhi: One foreign national from Nepal was killed in Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Pahalgam, according to the latest list of fatalities prepared by authorities. The Nepalese national was identified as Sundip Nevpane.

On Wednesday morning, the authorities issued an updated list of 26 people who died in the terrorist attack. Six of the victims belonged to Maharashtra, while three victims were from Gujarat. Two of the victims are from Karnataka while one each is from Haryana, West Bengal and Bihar.

Another victim, Neeraj Udhawani, was listed as a UAE national in the initial list of fatalities Tuesday evening, but his nationality was updated to Indian in the new list released Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the UAE strongly condemned the attack that targeted tourists in Pahalgam. It expressed its strong condemnation of these criminal acts, and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability in contravention of international law, according to statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

ThePrint earlier reported that a Navy officer from Haryana’s Karnal and one official of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) were among the victims of the deadliest terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.

Videos emerging from the site suggest that gunshots were heard while a large number of tourists thronged Baisaran Valley, a popular destination in Pahalgam sub division of Anantnag district.

The local police were informed first about 2.45 p.m. when a woman tourist dialled the Police Control Room about the terror attack.

At least six terrorists, including two locals, are said to have been involved in the dastardly attack on tourists. Sources in the security establishment confirmed to ThePrint that these two locals had crossed the border to Pakistan in 2017 and had returned only recently.

Hours after the attack that shocked the national security officials, Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Jammu and Kashmir with top officials such as Home Secretary Govind Mohan and IB director Tapan Deka.

This is an updated version of the report.
