Akola, Jul 2 (PTI) The role of grievance redressal committees established under Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (POSH) Act is crucial in protecting women, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said on Thursday.
Speaking at a training workshop organized at the Akola district collector’s office for chairpersons and members of grievance redressal committees formed under POSH Act, she said committee members must function with sensitivity, awareness, and a sense of responsibility.
“Women working in the unorganized sector often miss the opportunity to file complaints. Local committees play a vital role in securing justice for such women. It is essential for both local and internal committees to work proactively to create a safe, dignified, and discrimination-free environment at the workplace,” she said.
Rahatkar urged everyone to recognize that the effective implementation of the POSH Act and the creation of widespread public awareness is a collective responsibility.
She called upon committee members to remain vigilant in ensuring that women are informed of their rights, the grievance redressal process is streamlined, and complaints are addressed with timely and fair action.
“It is mandatory for every internal committee to regularly upload its annual report regarding actions taken during the year onto the ‘She-Box’ portal. These records facilitate the review of the Act’s implementation, help in understanding the nature of complaints, and assist in taking necessary measures,” she said.
If every internal committee functions conscientiously and responsibly, the POSH Act will prove to be an effective instrument for delivering justice to even the most marginalized sections of society, the NCW chief added.
