The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) held a five-day virtual orientation program on June 10, 2024, for 1 lakh teachers from 29 states, UTs, KVS, and NVS across the country to assist teachers in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a PIB press release stated.
The sessions were focused on providing teachers with an overview of NMM and NPST; however, each day, a different state and UT was covered. The goal of the training sessions was to bolster the professional skills of teachers and enable them to create a strong foundation for their students.
Prof. Pankaj Arora, Chairperson of NCTE, and Ms. Kesang Y. Sherpa, Member Secretary of NCTE, organized the sessions. A detailed explanation of NMM was provided in a session on the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), including a technical demonstration of how to register and use the NMM portal for mentors and mentees. The session also emphasized the ongoing support provided by NCTE through the NMM digital portal to facilitate interactions between mentors and mentees. The session on NPST focused on enhancing teachers’ understanding of performance expectations and methods for improvement outlined in the NPST Guiding Document.
The session highlighted the three core standards, teacher levels, and the NPST framework as recommended in the NPST Guiding Document in order to assist teachers in achieving their professional and personal goals. The orientation sessions provided essential information that will enable teachers to implement the NMM and NPST effectively in their schools and contribute to the improvement of student learning outcomes.
