Pune, Jan 31 (PTI) Nationalist Congress Party MLC Amol Mitkari has sought an apology from self-styled godman and Bageshwar Dham chief Dhirendra Krishna Shastri for his comments on 17th century saint Sant Tukaram, or else face the “consequences”.

In a viral video, Shastri is heard saying that Sant Tukaram’s wife used to beat him with a stick every day.

Mitkari on Monday said, “If this fool does not know about the warkari sect, he should not speak or else the warkaris in Maharashtra will not think twice before giving him a befitting reply.” Lotd Vitthal’s devotees, called the warkaris, undertake a pilgrimage every year to Pandharpur in Maharashtra’s Solapur district carrying the holy footprints of Sant Tukaram from Dehu in Pune.

Mitkari sought an apology from Shastri over his remarks.

“He should apologise or be ready to face the consequences,” the NCP leader said.

Shastri is the head priest of Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Gada village which attracts a large number of people.

A man recently issued a death threat to Shastri, who claims to predict the future of people through chits.

Shastri, popularly called Bageshwar Dham Sarkar, has considerable followers in Madhya Pradesh as well as other parts of the country. Recently, rationalist Shyam Manav from Maharashtra challenged him to prove miracles. PTI SPK GK GK
