Gondia, Mar 30 (PTI) Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) in Maharashtra’s Gondia will get control of the buffer notified area in its vicinity from April 1, which officials on Monday said will help boost managerial efficiency of the facility.

The decision to hand over control of the buffer notified area was made through a government resolution on December 24 last year, they added.

After the transfer of the buffer notified area of 652.20 square kilometres, the size of NNTR will rise to 1305.88 square kilometres.

“It will help develop the reserve in a better way. The area will come under our management from April 1,” NNTR field director Piyusha Jagtap said.

There are plans to start new gates for the safaris, home stay facilities, adventure sports facilities etc, Jagtap added.

The control of the buffer notified area will also give a boost to efforts to curb man-animal conflicts, the official added.

“While tourism is stopped in the core area in monsoons, people can enjoy safaris in the buffer zone all year long due to unified control,” deputy field director Pritam Kodape said.

The transfer of the ‘buffer notified’ area from the forest department and Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) to NNTR will double the size of the reserve but also help in micro planning and speedy release of funds, officials said. PTI COR BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
