Nanded, Jul 8 (PTI) The administration in Maharashtra’s Nanded district has launched a campaign to plant one lakh bamboo saplings as part of an initiative aimed at strengthening environmental conservation and expanding green cover, officials said on Wednesday They said the district administration has set a target of planting 37.5 lakh trees during the 2026 monsoon season.
Bamboo saplings will be planted along both sides of deepened streams and other water conservation structures. Its extensive root system is expected to help prevent soil erosion, stabilise stream banks and improve the long-term durability of water conservation works, they said.
Collector Rahul Kardile urged citizens to participate in the tree plantation drive.
Meanwhile, the National Service Scheme Department of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, organised a tree plantation drive on the varsity campus as part of the government’s ‘Van Mahotsav Week’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiatives, officials said on Wednesday. PTI COR NR
