Mumbai, Jun 23 (PTI) A highly venomous Russell’s viper snake was rescued from an entry-exit area of the Mumbai Metro Line 3’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) station on Tuesday morning.
The incident did not affect metro services, officials said.
The snake was spotted near the A5 entry-exit point of the underground station at around 7.45 am, said a statement issued by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).
A trained wildlife rescuer was called to the spot and the snake was safely removed, the statement said.
“As a precautionary measure, the area was immediately secured, and station operations continued safely without any disruption to passenger services,” MMRC said, adding that preventive measures were being taken to minimise the likelihood of such incidents in future.
As per sources, wildlife rescuer Atul Kamble rescued the reptile. It was later released into its natural habitat in accordance with Forest Department guidelines Russell’s viper is considered as one of India’s most venomous snake species, measuring around two to two-and-a-half feet in length.
