Mumbai, May 18 (PTI) Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam on Monday said his 12-year-old daughter has decided not to participate in an international karate competition in Seoul in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s austerity appeal.

In a statement, Satam said his daughter Mahika recently earned her black belt in karate and had qualified to take part in a tournament in Seoul in South Korea.

Respecting the prime minister’s call to citizens to refrain from foreign travel for some time, the family unanimously decided that she would not travel to South Korea for the competition, Satam said.

“Competitions come and go, and we are confident Mahika will receive many such opportunities in the future. But keeping the spirit of ‘nation first’ in mind, we have taken this decision to make our small contribution in the country’s interest,” Satam said, adding he was proud of the maturity and patriotic spirit shown by his daughter.

Satam also thanked his wife and daughter for their understanding and positive support in taking the decision. PTI MR BNM
