MP: Tiger carcass recovered from river inside Kanha reserve; another big cat rescued from well

Bhopal, Jul 22 (PTI) The carcass of a tiger was recovered from a swollen river in Kanha Reserve in Madhya Pradesh and , an official said on Tuesday.

The dead feline was spotted in the Banjar river following rains near Samnapur range on Monday evening, the forest official said.

After searching the diseased big cat throughout the night, a team deployed for the task finally recovered it on Tuesday afternoon, he said.

“The carcass is of a male tiger,” said Ravindra Mani Tripathi, Field Director of the the Kanha Tiger Reserve.

The veterinarians are examining the carcass to know details about the big cat.

Meanwhile, forest staffers received information about a tiger falling in a well near Malikhedi village under Khapa forest area in the reserve on Monday night, Tripathi said.

A team was simultaneously deployed to rescue the feline. A cot was lowered inside the well and a cage was placed on it to bring the animal out safely, he said.

“However, when the cot was being pulled up, the tiger leaped outside the well with the support of the wall and escaped in the nearby area,” the official said.

Elephants were deployed in the area to ensure that the tiger retreats into the forest and villagers were advised not to venture out till the situation normalises, he added. PTI COR MAS NP
