Indore, Sep 7 (PTI) Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday expressed grief over the deaths of 12 people in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district due to alleged consumption of spurious liquor and said sustained collective efforts are needed at the social level to eradicate addiction.
As many as 12 persons died, and 54 others fell ill after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in two villages of Banda tehsil, about 30 km from the Sagar district headquarters. Police have arrested 14 of the 30 persons named in FIRs.
Speaking to reporters, Scindia, who arrived here enroute to Ujjain for taking part in the ‘Shahi Sawari’, said, “This incident is extremely sad. We must free our young generation from illegal liquor or any other form of intoxication. Everyone must make continuous efforts at the social level to eradicate addiction.” In a brief response to a query on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi taking part in the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore on September 19, Scindia just said, “Come. Welcome. What’s the problem with that?” Scindia also said extensive preparations are underway under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for the Simhastha Mela to be held in Ujjain in 2028.
