Barwani (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 25 (PTI) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday condemned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remark referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father, saying political discourse should maintain decorum.

Speaking to reporters at Gayatri Dham in Jamli during his visit to Barwani district, Yadav said it was unfortunate that Congress dragged Modi’s late parents into politics for its narrow political interests.

“I strongly condemn it in the harshest terms. One should engage in politics, but decorum must be maintained,” he said.

Yadav said the remark had exposed the Congress’s character before the country and that people would not forgive the party.

The controversy erupted over Kharge’s remark at an event in Patna on Sunday to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister Shrikrishna Singh.

Responding to Kharge’s statement that the Congress will send those involved in carrying out alleged irregularities in the SIR process to jail, a person from the audience shouted, “As long as there is no rebellion, (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi won’t go anywhere.”

The Congress president shot back, saying, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Let alone Modi, even his father would go). PTI COR LAL NSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
